Delivered as a pre-conference workshop at the 2024 EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity and Privacy, this workshop focused on empowering cybersecurity and privacy professionals in higher education with concrete, actionable tools and methodologies to effectively manage risk in an age of generative AI. While the workshop emphasized data security/privacy and teaching and learning, we remained cognizant of the human concerns, such as questions of bias and accessibility, as well as the impact of generative AI on the (IT) workforce, which continue to evolve and challenge us. Through a mixture of small group activities, such as case-studies, coupled with larger group discussions, this workshop served as a space in which to interrogate specific challenges of generative AI, but still allowed participants to leave with a clearer understanding of how to integrate it into a robust, forward-thinking response at our home institutions.
