Empowering Faculty in an Age of Generative AI

Along with a colleague, in May of 2024, I presented at the Connecticut Education Network annual conference. For our presentation, we discussed the initiatives forming our multi-pronged approach to empowering faculty, highlighting our challenges and our successes at our home institution. In doing so, we hoped the audience will benefit from our journey. We wanted to demonstrate ways to empower faculty to face generative AI broadly with agency, not confusion or fear, building a culture of inquiry on our campus, and a recognition that we need to prepare students for post-graduate lives in which generative AI will play an important part.

Feedback from the presentation included “Excellent presentation, came away with some good ideas on getting teachers and staff onboard and more comfortable with AI as a tool; “Was very happy with this session;” and “was great.”
